Checkers Rules

Checkers is a class of board games played on a 8x8 grid and has ancient origins dating back as far as 3000 BC. There are two opposing players, one with the dark pieces the other light. Movement is initially only forward and only on the dark squares.

Movement is only one square at a time and only in a diagonal direction toward the opposing players side of the board.

Once an opposing player piece has reached the opposing players last row of board that piece is made a king piece.

A king piece can move either forward or backward unlike a regular piece that can only normally move forward.

A normal piece can jump another player piece and capture it if it lies on a immediate diagonal piece and only if there is not another piece behind it diagonally.

A player must jump the opposing player's piece, if not the other player may remove that player peice from the board.

A player can jump multiple times if the opposing players pieces are in consecutive empty spots.

The winner is determined when all of the pieces of the opponent are captured or the opposing player has no valid moves left. A draw occurs if each player cannot force a win and hence a stalemate.

There are other variations of checkers, international and malaysian.
